The Dream Catchers

A dream catcher is a handmade object associated with Native American culture that is placed where a person sleeps. According to legend, the dreams we have while asleep are messages sent from spirits. The good dreams reach us through the hole in the center of the dream catcher and the bad dreams are caught in the dream catcher’s web and disappear into the sunlight once the sun rises.

What if we used a dream catcher for our daydreams, too? Our life dreams, our passions, our heart’s desire? These daydreams are messages sent from our intuition (our soul). The “bad dreams” that disappear with the sunlight, are the messages that society sends us. Messages that tell us what we “should” be or “should” do. Messages that originate outside of ourselves.

While thinking about starting this series, discovering how people are chasing their dreams, the name Dream Catcher just seemed to fit. Letting the “good dreams” (our heart’s desire, our passions, and the dreams we have for our lives) in. And letting the “bad dreams” (the expectations society puts on us) fade away with the sunlight. It’s about differentiating between what our true passions and dreams are versus what the world tells us they should be. It is then about having the courage to go after them.

Here are the posts in this series that feature women and men who are listening to their heart’s desire while following their passions and catching their dreams . . . The Dream Catchers!

Sarah: “Am I really living?”

Shannon: “Sometimes even superheroes need a side kick.”

Barbie: “Now that I have found time to do the things I like to do, I am happier.”

Jenn: “A Girl’s Gotta Dream.”

Clementine: “It’s crucial to make our passions a priority.”
