Pottery Painting for Breast Cancer Awareness

Pottery After

When my daughter was younger we used to love to paint pottery.  So, for the 31 pink days of breast cancer awareness, I decided we needed to do this for one of the projects.  We went to our local pottery painting shop, Hidden Talents, and spent an hour painting.

This is the kind of place where you can choose from bowls, plates, mugs, figurines etc., that have already been made.  You paint it however your heart desires and then they will glaze and fire it and voila!  You have a completed piece of pottery.  Easy, peezy lemon squeezy!

My daughter and I really had a nice time together.  When I can get my 16 year old to want to spend time with me, it’s a good day.  I didn’t care how my pottery turned out, I was already chalking it up as a win!

We arrived and both took little time choosing what we wanted to paint.  I am a coffee-a-holic so I chose a cup.  My daughter chose a H-U-G-E mug that could fit a small baby.  I believe she was having visions of ice cream splendor.

After our items were chosen, we picked our paint colors.  Various shades of pink of course but also some blues, greens, white and black.  A girl can’t live on pink alone even if it is breast cancer awareness month.

We sat down and got to work.  Part of my problem with anything crafty is I don’t plan anything out really.  I just start.  Sometimes this works out and sometimes it doesn’t.  For me, it was going okay until I decided to put little dots in the middle of the circles I had put on my cup.  Ironically, I was NOT trying to get them to look like breasts, but guess what?  They did.  I guess this is the only time I can really get away with putting boobs on my coffee mug! 😉

We decided this wasn’t our best work.  It is actually harder than it looks to get what you see in your mind to come out onto the pottery.  But, we had a great time and every time we use our mugs we will think of my mom who passed away from breast cancer.

She had an amazing smile!
